Development
Within the Perstorp Group we have mastered production of chemicals from biobased raw materials for more than 100 years. The company was one of the early pioneers in methanol based chemistry, where the methanol was derived from wood gasification. We were also exploiting ethanol from wood into chemicals until the early 1960's.
For the last 50 years oil and gas have been dominating as raw materials in the petrochemical industry, a route which also Perstorp has been forced to follow due to competition on the market.
But today the situation is different. The awareness is increasing regarding what impact fossil fuels have on our climate and since availability of oil is questioned, together with an ever escalating price on oil, we have a strong motive to revisit our roots, and with modern technology yet again start to utilise biobased raw materials.
Perstorp BioProducts runs an interesting portfolio of development projects in four different areas; biogas based chemicals, ethanol based chemicals, vegetable oil based chemicals and biobutanol.
